This seminar provides an introduction to to the art of celestial navigation, with a focus on noon sights. It is given in two sessions.
SESSION 1 Thursday Oct 1st 7-9 pm
A Brief description of the notions involved in celestial navigation, sextant operation, and the specifics of how to obtain a position using a noon sight of the sun.
SESSION 2 Saturday Oct 3rd 10-3 pm
Using a sextant, taking several sights of the sun as it passes over Sant Barbara at its highest point, and calculating position using the methods from Session 1.
Location: All seminars meet at the SB Harbor Marine Center Classroom above the Post Office.
