DESCRIPTION:Your Santa Barbara chapter of “America’s Boating Club” (formerly United States Power Squadrons) will be teaching a Marine Navigation course that provides the basic skills you need to plan and safely navigate your boat using traditional (dead reckoning\, charts) and modern (GPS\, electronic) methods. \nCourse Description: Marine Navigation is the first course in the sequence of America’s Boating Club’s courses on navigation\, covering the basics of coastal and inland navigation. This course focuses on navigation as it is done on recreational boats today and embraces GPS as a primary navigation tool while covering enough of traditional techniques so the student will be able to find their way even if their GPS fails. \nSchedule: Eight sessions\, Tuesdays\, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM; May 2 – June 20\, 2023; Take home exam due June 27 \nPricing: Member price: $75 per person Non-Member: $125 per person \nJoining-Member: Member price + Additional* $102 for one or $152 for family membership \n(*1st year membership in America’s Boating Club – Santa Barbara Sail and Power Squadron) \nAdditional Information: \nClassroom Sessions will be live on-line using ZOOM for students that cannot attend a Session(s). \n\n\n    \n\n\n\nLocation: The classes meet at SB Harbor Marine Center Classroom\, above the Harbor Post Office \nContact: Purchase ticket below to register or get more information. SUMMARY:Catalina Cruise - Two Harbors
DESCRIPTION:This is a week-long Cruise to Catalina led by the Ciolinos.  It’s a long haul to Two Harbors – almost 90 miles but well worth the effort.  Whether you’ve been there before or this will be your first time\, it’s a gorgeous location with lots to do once you’re there.  Arriving mid-week means you should be able to secure a good mooring with no need to move when the weekend arrives. Details will be provided by Rich and Peggy prior to cruise. NOTE: Weather conditions will always dictate safety of planned cruises. \nTwo Harbors has a general store\, restaurant and coffee shop\, marine mechanic\, fuel\, water and sewage dump so you can be comfortable for a week.  There are lots of activities including hiking\, kayaking\, snorkeling and scuba.  A rental shop is open daily for all water activities including air tank fills. Lolling on the protected beach is also encouraged! \nDeparture on the 26th is timed to coincide with the PCYC cruise.  The idea is that you can break up the long trip home with a stop at PCYC for several nights to enjoy their hospitality.  Check out that event for details.

DESCRIPTION: Get Your California Boating Card and Important Basic Boating Skills \nWhen fully implemented\, California’s Boating Card law will require all motor vessel operators to have a California Boating Card (CBC). As of January 1\, 2018 the law applies to motor vessel operators 20 years old and younger. To obtain a CBC one must successfully complete a qualified boating course. – our America’s Boating Course is qualified by the State of California.  \nYour Santa Barbara chapter of America’s Boating Club (formerly United States Power Squadrons) will offer its America’s Boating Course that teaches boating basics and safety (sail\, power\, PWC\, paddle etc.) to you and your crew.
