DESCRIPTION:Your Santa Barbara chapter of “America’s Boating Club” (formerly United States Power Squadrons) will be teaching a Marine Navigation course that provides the basic skills you need to plan and safely navigate your boat using traditional (dead reckoning\, charts) and modern (GPS\, electronic) methods. \nCourse Description: Marine Navigation is the first course in the sequence of America’s Boating Club’s courses on navigation\, covering the basics of coastal and inland navigation. This course focuses on navigation as it is done on recreational boats today and embraces GPS as a primary navigation tool while covering enough of traditional techniques so the student will be able to find their way even if their GPS fails. \nSchedule: Eight sessions\, Tuesdays\, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM; May 2 – June 20\, 2023; Take home exam due June 27 \nPricing: Member price: $75 per person Non-Member: $125 per person \nJoining-Member: Member price + Additional* $102 for one or $152 for family membership \n(*1st year membership in America’s Boating Club – Santa Barbara Sail and Power Squadron) \nAdditional Information: \nClassroom Sessions will be live on-line using ZOOM for students that cannot attend a Session(s). \n\n\n    \n\n\n\nLocation: The classes meet at SB Harbor Marine Center Classroom\, above the Harbor Post Office \nContact: Purchase ticket below to register or get more information. DESCRIPTION: This is America’s Boating Club Boat Handling Course that teaches Rules of the Road\, Maneuvering Under Varied Conditions\, Docking\, Anchoring\, Emergencies on Board\, and Knots and Line Handling.  \nThe Boating Handling Course consist of six modules that will be presented every Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM starting September 22nd.  If you are interested in participating let me know so I can send you the ZOOM link.  The ZOOM sessions are free.  If you want the material\, there are two way you can purchase it.  We recommend that you purchase the Online Course from the America’s Boating Club\, which has an optional test that you can take online.  \nUSPS Boat Handling Course link     https://uspsonline.lmscheckout.com/Course/view/1814830 \nThe other way to purchase material is to pay through PayPal at sbsailandpower@yahoo.com\, send us a check to SBSPS\, 268 Big Sur Dr.\, Goleta CA 93117\, or email me your credit card information.  I will then send you a Redemption Key that lets you download a pdf which has pictures of all the slides. DESCRIPTION: Get Your California Boating Card and Important Basic Boating Skills \nWhen fully implemented\, California’s Boating Card law will require all motor vessel operators to have a California Boating Card (CBC). As of January 1\, 2018 the law applies to motor vessel operators 20 years old and younger. To obtain a CBC one must successfully complete a qualified boating course. – our America’s Boating Course is qualified by the State of California.  \nYour Santa Barbara chapter of America’s Boating Club (formerly United States Power Squadrons) will offer its America’s Boating Course that teaches boating basics and safety (sail\, power\, PWC\, paddle etc.) to you and your crew.
