Bring your old outdated signal flares, rockets, parachute flares and other emergency signaling devices to the beach in front of the Yacht Club at 630pm on Tuesday May 21st. This is an opportunity to test shooting off your signaling equipment without raising any alarms as this is an official event set up by the SB Harbor Dept as part of Safe Boating Week. The public is invited to this event as well as SBSPS members.
If you’ve never shot off a flare, you should definitely do it here to see what it’s like so you don’t end up like the guy in this short Youtube clip:
Even if you have done it before, you should come and update your experience. There is likely to be a variety of flare types from 12 gauge (typical least expensive) to 25 gauge (More expensive but brighter) to parachute flares ($$ but very bright and high).
You can also turn in your unused but outdated flares at this event.
We may also have an Anchoring talk/demo on the beach following the shoot – TBD
